Games and Rule Systems

Patriots and Loyalists is a set of American Revolutionary War rules for historical miniature wargaming.  The Merrymeeting Irregulars club uses this system and has written a brief discussion of the rules and their revisions.  Want to know more, read the discussion.  The charts have been updated and revised somewhat, click here to check them out.

Fire and Fury has been around for some time but a group from Bath has been working on some substantial changes for years.  They've even developed a complete campaign game based roughly on the Fire and Fury system, though it might be difficult to recognize the old parts of the game.  I hope to have samples of the new systems and an overview of their game philosophy posted here soon.  The tabletop game is called, At the Quick Step, and the campaign game is called, Glory Roads.  Check back for more info later.  03/05/00

Piquet is a fascinating set of rules that uses a core system with add-on modules to cover several periods of history.  The game does an excellent job of creating a "fog of war" and keeps the player thinking in larger terms rather than the minutia of positioning each stand.  The philosophy behind the game's development is worth reading so here is the link, http://www.piquet.com/theory.htm .  The heart of the system consists of a sequence deck that is tailored to the army and period, and various dice rolls to determine what your command is able to accomplish in a turn.

Piquet keeps me bouncing back and forth between loving it, and hating it.  I think that our group has finally decided that we love it for smaller engagements, maybe 2 or 3 people per side or fewer, but that it breaks down in larger games.

Smoke On The Water for 1/600 ACW Ironclads is a great game for groups of any size and skill level.  The rules are light hearted and quick to play, but they seem to present the player with reasonable choices and results.

The models we use are from Thoroughbred, and they are really nicely done.

I have at times been a bit free with the use of pictures and information from other clubs, shops, sites, books, etc.  Where possible I have made note of the source, and even requested permission when it seemed reasonable.  If I have used something that belongs to you and did not ask your permission, I apologize and hope that you do not mind my having done so.  This site generates no income of any kind, and is designed to promote the hobby- hopefully the use of your images will bring new visitors to your site.  If you would prefer that I remove something of yours, please email me
